3rd generation: 1937 - 1940 (1944).

In late 1937 the Riga Main post office acquired two semiautomatic corner machine cancelling apparatus from Great Britain.

The canceller consisted of two parts, the circular date stamp at left showing the place name and the date, and an interchangeable appendix at right with a slogan text.

Due to the construction of the apparatus, cancellations appeared horizontally in the upper right corner of the mail (where the postage stamps usually are placed) leaving by one revolution an impression of 85 mm length.

Occasionally this canceller was also used for additional postmarking on metered mail. In such cases, the cancellations were applied vertically along one of the sides of the cover or card.

The date stamp is a small, approx. 21 mm, single-ring mark with arcs to the left and right, in which the place name and serial letter appear. The date is in three lines in the centre of the mark, with month always given in the form of a three-letter abbreviation, preceded by the day of the month. The first line has only the time of the day. The name of the country is omitted in these marks.
